Our Story

At Richlee Motor Co., we are proud to be a family-run business with a rich history spanning over 39 years. Founded in 1985 by Richard and Julia Shayler, our humble beginnings were marked by a small office behind a petrol station in London Road. Over the years, we have grown and evolved to become one of the largest independent used car dealerships in Essex.

Growth and Expansion

In the early days, we focused on providing high-quality used cars and exceptional customer service. As our reputation grew, so did our sales. We expanded our stock levels, added new staff members, and opened an on-site service bay. The 1990s were a challenging time for many businesses, but our dedication and hard work allowed us to stay strong.

Major Milestones

One of our proudest achievements was becoming the best-selling outlet in the country for Murco Petroleum in 1996. This milestone marked a significant turning point in our history, as we transitioned from a service station to a dedicated car dealership. We continued to grow, increasing our stock levels, staff, and facilities. We even opened our own body shop, Supreme Motor Bodies, to meet the demand for our high-quality vehicles.

Legacy and Innovation

As the world became more digital, we recognized the importance of having an online presence. In 2006, we began advertising online, and our website became a vital part of our marketing strategy. We continued to innovate, introducing new services and refurbishing our premises to provide an enhanced customer experience. In 2011, we decided to become fully independent and carried out all refurbishments in-house.

Today, we are proud to be one of the largest independent used car dealerships in Essex, with over 150 vehicles in stock. We continue to innovate, investing in new technologies and processes to ensure our customers receive the best possible service.
